Vision 2020

The Chattanooga District will be known by the movement sweeping through our communities through local United Methodist churches and ministries.  This movement will be marked by the following observable characteristics:

Laity

Laity will be equipped empowered and sent from our churches into our communities to be in ministry

Clergy

Clergy will model servant leadership of Jesus Christ by forming meaningful relationships in their communities in settings beyond the walls of their churches.

Young Adults

The United Methodist Church will have a strong presence among young adults in the downtown Chattanooga nightlife.

Partnerships

Our churches will routinely partner with other churches to share supplies and resources for ministries such as Vacation Bible School.

Breaking Barriers

Our churches will be committed to breaking down barriers between persons and groups in their communities and will reflect the demographics of their surrounding communities

Growth

Through these efforts, we will see attendance in worship services grow in all our churches; and by 2020 average weekly attendance for the district will grow from 8,222 in 2012 to 9,500.
How will we do all of this? Read the action plan below to find out the concrete steps our district is taking to make this vision a reality.

Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
Acts 2:43-47
